Fall Gardening

Now is the time to plant your leafy greens, turnips, collards and kale, carrots, radishes, broccoli, cauliflower, brussels sprouts, cabbage, Spinach.  Be sure to add a handful of organic fertilizer to the bottom of the hole before planting transplants.

Follow the Rain Totals

As rain returns to our area follow the rain totals using the community collarborative rain, hail, and snow network.  The website is www.cocorahs.org/

Composting

With cooler temperatures now is a perfect time to apply a thin layer of compost to your lawn.  It's also time to apply a good organic fertilizer.  Best practice is to apply the fertilizer and then the layer of compost.  Doing it in this order puts the fertilizer to work faster.

Drought Restrictions

Even with recent rains remember we are still under water restrictions.  Be sure and follow water restriction guidelines at this SAWS link.  Not following these rules could lead to hefty fines during the summer months.

Garlic and Onions

The month of October is the time to plant your garlic.  Take a whole head and break it into individual cloves.  Plant each clove as it's own.  The month of November is when we plant our onions.
