Watering

wateringKeeping plants healthy and attractive during the hot summer months can be a challenge. During water restrictions it is best to water early in the day and make sure you apply 1” to 1-1/2” inches of water to your lawn each time you water. Late evening is probably the worst time to water, as it leaves the foliage damp at night when molds and fungi are most active. There are timers you can attach to your hoses so that you can water at certain times even if you don’t have a sprinkler system. Soaker hoses can be used any time so make sure you use them to deep water shrubs and trees at least once a month. Keep your beds mulched to conserve water. Spaying the yard with Medina Plus every 4 to 6 weeks helps keep the soil soft and open so that it absorbs the water more evenly and completely.  Proper watering would probably save 75% of the plants that are lost in gardens each year. Even those plants that succumb to pests were usually first weakened by inconsistent watering.
