Wisteria

Wisteria is a genus of flowering plants in the pea family. Wisteria vines climb by twining their stems either clockwise or counter-clockwise round any available support. Among their attributes are hardiness, vigor, longevity and the ability to climb high.  They can climb as high as 40 feet above ground and spread out 20 feet or more laterally. Two species of wisteria are typically grown in home gardens Chinese wisteria and the Japanese wisteria, with the Chinese wisteria being the more popular plant due to its flowering habit. These vines are spring favorites throughout the south. They have a very fragrant purple flower. (Deciduous)
